Housatonic Community College Welcomes New Academic Dean


HCC President Dr. Paul Broadie has announced that Dr. Michael B. Brown has been appointed Academic Dean of the college.

Dr. Brown was most recently Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at North Carolina’s Wesleyan College. Previously he was Associate Dean of the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences at East Carolina University, one of the largest universities in the University of North Carolina system.

Dr. Brown was also Professor of Psychology at East Carolina University teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in child, developmental, educational and school psychology. He has served on dissertation committees and published many articles in professional publications.

During his tenure, Dr. Brown has received several awards including the NCCPA Distinguished Scholar Award, the ECU Scholar-Teacher Award, the UNC Board of Governors Distinguished Professor for Teaching Award, and a NACADA Outstanding Academic Advisor Award. Additionally, he has served on numerous professional and community boards and committees.

Dr. Brown earned a PhD in school psychology, a Master’s degree in family and child development, and a Bachelor’s degree in biology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He completed a pre-doctoral clinical psychology internship at the Reading (PA) Hospital and Medical Center.

The Academic Dean is the chief academic officer of the college. In this position Dr. Brown will work closely with all aspects of the academic affairs division, including academic programs, faculty, the library, career services, and academic support services. He will also represent the college on the CSCU Academic Council.

President Broadie says, “On behalf of Housatonic, I welcome Dr. Brown to the college. We look forward to his expertise in administration and in academic affairs.”
