At age 32, after ten years at HCC, Mayra Cancho is graduating with a degree in Business Administration and two careers. Mayra came to the United States from Peru 15 years ago and needed to learn English; she turned to HCC. That first experience, coupled with encouragement from HCC faculty, and support from FESP and the HCC Foundation, helped Mayra to keep going and realize her dreams.

We welcome Mr. Mario Pierce who joins the HCC community as Associate Dean of Campus Operations beginning August 10. Mr. Pierce will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day campus operations and providing leadership, general direction, and administration of the campus’ facilities, maintenance and custodial services, financial support services, information technology services, emergency preparedness, and auxiliary services (e.g. campus security, campus bookstore, food services), as well as assisting the Chief Executive Officer in managing the overall budget and serves as a liaison with appropriate local, State, and College officials.

Opioid addiction, especially from opioids in prescribed pain relievers has soared in the U.S. reaching over 2.1 million persons according to recent data. On Thursday, Nov. 17, from noon to 2 p.m. in the HCC Beacon Hall Events Center, a distinguished panel will discuss the past, present, and future impact of opioid use.

The Housatonic Community College (HCC) class of 2020 was presented virtually yesterday in a ceremony hosted live on the college’s Facebook page. This 52nd HCC commencement celebration ceremony included footage of students and campus, congratulatory messages from faculty and staff, and the appearance of the graduates’ names and photos.

Nick Jeffrey will be recognized during the Housatonic Community College (HCC) virtual graduation ceremony today. He entered the engineering program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) as a first semester Junior in January 2020, and his experience at HCC prepared him well for the transition.

Later this month, at age 17, Mason Perry will graduate from both Capital Preparatory Harbor Charter School in Bridgeport, and Housatonic Community College (HCC). With a strong grasp on hard work and time management, the dual high school and college graduate from West Haven, Connecticut is well prepared for the next step on his academic journey.

Just in time for National Gardening Week, Housatonic Community College’s Dean of Academic Affairs Robin Avant has published her first book, The Spirit of Gardening: Gardening for New Bees The Life Revealed Through Gardening! The 139-page beginner’s resource is a guide, reference book and a collection site for the ‘new bee” gardener.
