Housatonic Community College Student Captures Internship at Deloitte

By

Jean Joseph, second year accounting student at HCC, was scanning a college bulletin board while waiting for class to begin. He noticed a flyer from HACU (Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities) promoting a seminar taking place on the HCC campus that would focus on internships.

At the seminar, he heard about Deloitte’s Discovery Program Internship which sounded good and he followed up. He completed the application process that required an essay, two interviews, and maintaining at least 3.3 GPA. His Discovery acceptance letter and documentation arrived on April 25. Jean will start the eight week program on June 20 in the Boston offices of Deloitte. He will spend four weeks working in auditing with Deloitte & Touche LLP, and four weeks in taxation with Deloitte Tax LLP.

The Deloitte Discovery Internship Rotational intern program is designed to expose sophomore college students to two different client service businesses working on real life projects. Additionally the program offers learning events. Interns are assigned a mentoring team including a counselor and advisor who offer guidance throughout the program and while the intern continues education.

Christine Johnson, Deloitte Services LP Campus Recruiting Specialist, says, “We look forward to having Jean with us. He is very qualified, eager to learn, and we expect a mutually excellent relationship with him.”

Jean, meanwhile, is completing the first term of his second year at HCC. He expects to complete his HCC academic work and graduate with an Associate degree in December. He says, “I’ll continue to get my bachelor’s degree and now I can focus on universities in the Boston area. Deloitte has additional internships and mentors who will stay connected. I hope I can continue with them.” His ultimate goal is to work in auditing and forensic accounting.
