Each year refugees seek safety in our country, often arriving with nothing more than a suitcase, and struggling with our language. That’s why the Interfaith Refugee Resettlement Committee (IRRC), Fairfield County’s Community Foundation (FCCF), Housatonic Community College (HCC) and its Foundation banded together to help develop the English communication skills of an Afghan family fleeing the Taliban.

Currently on exhibition at Housatonic Community College is a wide variety of work by full- and part-time art faculty members. The show is entitled ‘Portes Ouvertes’, or open doors in French, to reflect that the COVID shutdown is largely ending.
An opening reception was held on April 5 in the Burt Chernow Gallery, located in Lafayette Hall on the Housatonic Community College Campus. The exhibit features the work of 17 artists, and will offer a range of artwork, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, digital, and installation.
