The Housatonic Museum of Art (HMA) announces a powerful film series in connection with its new landmark exhibition, ‘Lost Man Blues: Jon Schueler – Art and War’. In this dramatic line-up, the exploration of combat art and art in the aftermath of war delivers a heaping portion of emotion and nostalgia. All films are available on the museum’s website, www.HousatonicMuseum.org and screenings take place at 7:30pm.

The Housatonic Museum of Art is proud to announce the opening of a new exhibit, Lost Man Blues: Jon Schueler – Art and War, curated by Marissa Roth. The show will feature twenty-six paintings and selected writings by the esteemed, prolific American abstract expressionist that reflect his war experiences. The exhibition, which takes its title from a piece commemorating the disappearance of a plane belongs to his squadron, will open on September 2 and be on view through October 8, 2021. Curator Marissa Roth will offer a talk about the artist’s work on Thursday, September 2 at 6pm.

It features a selection of paintings, photographs and sculpture that explores the ways in which male dominance has manifested itself in familial, social, legal, political, religious and economic systems—patriarchal structures that, over the centuries, have continually been used to dominate, oppress and exploit women.

Housatonic Community College (HCC) studio art adjunct professor Lydia Viscardi will present “Here and Hereafter,” a solo exhibition of mixed media painting and works on paper at Five Points Gallery from August 28 – October 3, 2020. The gallery, located at 33 Main St. in Torrington, CT, is free and open to the public Friday - Sunday from 1-5pm and by appointment. A Virtual Tour can be found on the Five Points Gallery website when the show opens and an Artists Talk will take place via zoom mid-September. For the first time in its history, the Housatonic Community College (HCC) Student Art Show adopted an online-only format. Typically held in the school’s Burt Chernow Galleries each spring, the Art Department created an innovative virtual exhibition while the college’s campus is closed due to the COVID-19 crisis.

A new exhibit with connections to our local history is opening at the Housatonic Museum of Art on February 6, 2020. Entitled “The Hypogean Tip”, artist Rachel Owens’ exhibit explores both Bridgeport’s and our larger nation’s past, and will run from February 6 through March 21, 2020.

On Thursday, November 7, a crowd of 207 art lovers gathered at the Housatonic Museum of Art to attend the opening reception for “In a Dark Wood, Wandering,” a survey exhibition of sculptures by New Haven artist Joseph Saccio.
