Housatonic Community College Holds First-Ever Convocation and Rite of Passage Ceremony

On Thursday, September 23, Housatonic Community College (HCC) marked the beginning of the academic school year with its first-ever Convocation and Rite of Passage Ceremony. The gathering, which took place on the college’s downtown Bridgeport campus courtyard, allowed students to affirm their commitment to their educational journeys.
Housatonic Community College (HCC), an Achieving the Dream Leader Institution, is the recipient of a $1 million donation from philanthropist and business owner, Peter J. Werth Jr. It is the largest gift from an individual in school history, and will establish the Werth Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center.
The Housatonic Community College Foundation (HCCF) recently received $5,000 of grant funding from the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to support low-income female Housatonic Community College (HCC) students who are also mothers. This grant marks a first of its kind for AAUW, which until this time only supported students directly.
On Thursday, September 2, the Housatonic Museum of Art (HMA) officially reopened its doors with a celebration of its grand collective exhibition: Big Art Bash 2021. The show, which is located in Lafayette Hall on the Housatonic Community College campus, features four highly diverse individual exhibitions that are sure to affect even the most discerning art enthusiasts.

In this dramatic line-up, the exploration of combat art and art in the aftermath of war delivers a heaping portion of emotion and nostalgia. The Housatonic Museum of Art is proud to announce the opening of a new exhibit, Lost Man Blues: Jon Schueler – Art and War, curated by Marissa Roth. The show will feature twenty-six paintings and selected writings by the esteemed, prolific American abstract expressionist that reflect his war experiences. The exhibition, which takes its title from a piece commemorating the disappearance of a plane belongs to his squadron, will open on September 2 and be on view through October 8, 2021. Curator Marissa Roth will offer a talk about the artist’s work on Thursday, September 2 at 6pm.
The Housatonic Museum of Art (HMA) today announced a landmark gift of $500,000 from the Werth Family Foundation. The donation represents the largest contribution from a single donor in the history of the museum to date and will establish an endowment.

Housatonic Community College Foundation and Bank of America Announce New Support for Manufacturing Pipeline Program in Bridgeport

The Housatonic Community College (HCC) Foundation was recently awarded a $15,000 grant from Bank of America to help support the community college’s Advanced Manufacturing Program, which trains and helps place women in manufacturing jobs.
Last month, after more than five decades of service, Professor Edward Keane, Ph.D. retired from Housatonic Community College (HCC). The esteemed faculty member’s 51-year tenure spanned nearly the entirety of the college’s existence.
