Janice Schaeffler didn’t start college at age 18. Recognizing that she needed some time to mature and being good at math, she went to work in a bank. She then took a continuing education Table Games Dealer Course at Atlantic Cape Community College, and went to work dealing craps at Harrah’s Casino in Atlantic City.

As the risk of food insecurity among college students is on the rise, Stop & Shop is taking steps to fight back locally with continued support for the Housatonic Community College (HCC) School Food Pantry. The supermarket giant recently donated an additional $10,000 to assist the HCC food pantry in helping food-insecure students with nutritious food options and basic necessities so they can stay focused on their education.

Housatonic Community College (HCC) and State Senator Marilyn Moore proudly announce the creation of the Ed Gomes Memorial Endowment Fund. The scholarship fund, established with contributions of friends and colleagues of Gomes, honors the memory of the former state senator and longtime leader in the steel workers union who was highly regarded as a passionate advocate for working families.

Originally from the heart of Chicago, Professor ‘Bernie’ Pasierb’s life was rapidly transformed after high school graduation when he was accepted to the US Military Academy at West Point at the height of the Vietnam War. Upon graduation in 1972 with a BS in Electrical Engineering, the war was ending and he served his five-year military commitment as an Army Officer with nuclear missile and telecommunications assignments in the U.S. and West Germany. While in Germany he earned his MBA in Management from the University of Utah during nearly 3 years of night and weekend classes.

With locations throughout Fairfield and New Haven counties, Wells Fargo is taking innovative steps to support students in need in the communities it serves. In a first-of-its-kind grant, the leading financial services company is teaming up with the CT State Colleges & Universities Foundation to support three CT State Community Colleges with $75,000 for equity-based support services for scholars attending Norwalk, Housatonic and Gateway Community Colleges.
