Housatonic Community College (HCC) invites the community to STEAMFest 2019 – a celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics on Wednesday, November 6th and Thursday, November 7th on the HCC campus.
This exciting event, now in its third year, provides an opportunity for engagement and exchange with STEAM professionals, and will feature discussions and demonstrations on beekeeping, sustainability, organic farming, climate change, energy efficiency, plastics in waterways, green jobs, turning trash to art, and much more. There will also be a discussion about the legalization of cannabis, a cooking demonstration, an electric car exhibit, virtual reality as well as an exploration into careers in the fields of video gaming.
“The theme is green,” said Janet Yarrow, STEAM Coordinator for HCC. “New tech is so important to know about, and this event is a celebration of our future.”
The event will begin in the Beacon Hall Events Center on Wednesday, November 6th at 10:30am with a demonstration by Alexandra Wallace-Currie on beekeeping, local honey, and the pollinator pathway. Events continue in the Events Center throughout the day, ending with readings of original work focused on climate change at 5pm in the Performing Arts Center.
On Thursday, November 8th, the celebration continues with a discussion at 10am on sustainability in the Events Center by Analiese Paik, Sustainne CEO. Events on this day include a cooking demonstration, a discussion with a video game designer and a presentation by event sponsor Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin Company on creating energy-efficient products, reducing pollution and hiring for green jobs.
STEAMFest is FREE, open to the public and refreshments will be served. Participants are encouraged to bring a clothing donation to the Donate & Recycle van that will be located in the courtyard.
