Candidates Nominated to Attend Connecticut Change Leadership Workshop Program

Six outstanding Housatonic Community College (HCC) leaders were chosen to attend the Connecticut Change Leadership workshop program. The program, which will be held virtually next month, and facilitated by the University of Texas at Austin Charles A. Dana Center, is a professional development opportunity open only to nominated Connecticut State Colleges & Universities (CSCU) community college leaders.

The attendees will include Mario Pierce, Associate Dean of Campus Operations; Felisha Guirand, Recruitment and Retention Coordinator for HCC’s Advanced Manufacturing Center; Deborah Kuchmas, Transfer Coordinator; Edward Brickett, Associate Accountant; Rebecca Rodriguez, Director of Recruitment and International Affairs / Part-Time Lecturer; and Jeanine Gibson, Acting Director of Academic Advising and Student Retention.

“I selected these exceptional members of our team because of their track records of excellence, and their ability to lead change,” said Dwayne Smith, Ph.D., HCC Chief Executive Officer. “Connecticut’s community college landscape is transforming, and as Housatonic leaders, they can help to drive student success in this new system of higher education.”

With colleagues in this CSCU cohort, the participants will strengthen their leadership skills through an assessment of their leadership styles and strategies to address others’ styles. Each leader will come away with a leadership plan applied to leading the change at hand. The interconnectivity and interdependence between faculty, staff and administrators in advancing student success strategies will be of primary focus.
