Afua Boadu-Kure
Two HCC students earned first and second prize respectively at Connecticut Community College’s 2017 Elevator Pitch Competition on Thursday. The competition, sponsored by the Entrepreneurship Foundation, limited students to a 60-second pitch that could not include audiovisual aid.
Afua Boadu-Kure’s pitch for Yours Truly, a consultation business aimed at styling and maintaining natural hair by way of organic and readily available products, took first place and $250 for best business concept. “There are tons of products already on the market,” Boadu-Kure said. “Not everything is a one-size-fits-all.”
Currently enrolled in the business management certification program at HCC, Boadu-Kure hopes to open a manufacturing facility in Bridgeport to design and produce products for Yours Truly. “I’d like to create jobs and enhance the consulting aspect.” Boadu-Kure said.
Isaiah Montanez received second place and $150 for Urban Transportation for Pets (and their owners). Both students received school trophies.
