Kim McGinnis, Ed.D. Named Dean of Student Services at Housatonic Community College

Paul Broadie II, President of Housatonic Community College (HCC), is pleased to announce the appointment of Kim McGinnis, Ed.D., as the new Dean of Student Services. 
 
Dr. McGinnis joined the college in July, adding over 20 years of expertise in college leadership, and a passion for student success, to the leadership of Housatonic Community College. 
 
“I am a delighted to welcome Dr. McGinnis to the HCC leadership team,” said Dr. Broadie. “Her wealth of knowledge and experience is invaluable, as we move forward with innovative initiatives to enhance and streamline student services, increase student engagement and remain steadfast in providing an exceptional academic and co-curricular experience for our students throughout their educational journey.  Dr. Mcginnis' commitment to student success and completion will further advance the college as we continue to serve as leaders in the delivery of education, student growth and advancement, and workforce development.” 
 
Kim McGinnis is passionate about education and student success. "As Dean of Student Services, I have the opportunity to utilize all I’ve learned over the years to help our students reach their dreams,” said Dr. McGinnis. HCC students will have plenty of opportunity to interact with their new Dean during a new monthly “Chat and Chew” meet and greet she recently initiated. “They will be encouraged to provide feedback and discuss issues and concerns in an open dialogue,” she explains. “I want to make sure our students are successful and excited about education.” 
 
Prior to her appointment to Dean of Student Services at HCC, Dr. McGinnis served as Interim Vice President of Student Support Services at Long Beach City College in California. Other notable highlights of her career include serving as the first female President of Williamsburg Technical College, Dean of student Services at Miami Dade College, Vice President of Continuing Education at James Sprunt Community College and Dean of Technical and Vocational Programs at Mayland Community College in Spruce Pine in North Carolina.  

Dr. McGinnis is the recipient of an Excellence in Teaching Award from the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges and was recognized as the Outstanding Faculty Member at Mayland Community College. She was selected as the Dallas Herring Fellow for the Future President’s Institute representing the North Carolina Community College System in 2008, and more recently was selected to represent Miami Dade College at the Florida College System’s Chancellor’s Leadership Seminar. Additionally, Dr. McGinnis was elected to serve on the Florida College System Board of the Council of Student Affairs. She is past President of the American Association of Women in Community Colleges, NC Chapter and received the Glass Ceiling Award from South Carolina’s Chapter of Women in Higher Education.
 
Kim McGinnis holds a Bachelor of Science degree in landscape horticulture from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina; a Masters of Arts degree in Education from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina a Masters of Science in Psychology from Capella University and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. She is a graduate of the 2017-2018 Association of California Community College Administrators Mentor Program (ACCCA) and the 2017 ACCCA Admin 101 program.
