The Fit-Friendly award is a recognition to local businesses and schools that champion the health of their employees and students. Housatonic Community College has a fit-friendly work environment in that we are a smoke free workplace, provide health related news and information in our newsletters, have access to a fitness center, etc.
The award came about as HCC Webmaster Richard Hubbard decided to submit an application on behalf of the college. Richard learned of it from a meeting with the Bridgeport Regional Business Council (BRBC) and thought it would be a perfect fit for the college.
HCC employees often compete in a BRBC stepping challenge held each fall. This past year, HCC had five teams, three of which made the top 10.
The recognition is valid for one year. HCC would need to renew annually, but next year, who knows, we might be eligible for the platinum award!
