Women can now get a head start on their career with the Housatonic Community College (HCC) Advanced Manufacturing Boot Camp. This free, three-week training program begins January 13, 2020, and gives women who are interested in pursuing a career in the manufacturing industry a starting foundation in these technical skills.

Offered just to women, this hands-on work readiness training program prepares students to enter the HCC Advanced Manufacturing Technology program, and ultimately, a rewarding career in the field. Students discover exciting career opportunities, learn skills such as blueprint reading and shop math and gain an understanding of the materials used in manufacturing.

The free training program is made possible, in part, through a grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. This funding will help to train female students for high-paying jobs, and bolster our local economy. Right now, thousands of well-paying manufacturing jobs are available in Connecticut, but there is a shortfall in trained workers, especially women.

“Employment is one of the most powerful levers to connect individuals to economic success. We’re excited to be partnering with Housatonic Community College to help connect females to the training and support they need to prepare themselves with skills needed to find meaningful employment in this important sector of our local economy and to set themselves on a path to improve their financial lives and create sustainable career pathways to a better future,” said Bill Tommins, Southern CT President, Bank of America.

“At absolutely no cost, women can begin to put their career into high gear with this course that introduces them to the Advanced Manufacturing industry. It will set them on a path to obtain the skills needed for success in a variety of positions in the field,” said Kristy Jelenik, Executive Director of Housatonic Community College Foundation.
