Housatonic Museum of Art Awarded Inspire! Grant From The Institute of Museum Studies For Collections Care
The Housatonic Museum of Art (HMA) is proud to announce that it recently received a $9,399 Inspire! Grant for Small Museums from The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The grant will allow HMA to implement a collections stewardship project that will increase storage space for acquisitions and ensure proper care and preservation of its collections.

Housatonic Community College Ranked Among Top 100 Producers of Associate Degrees for Minorities
Housatonic Community College (HCC) was recently named one of the nation’s top colleges for helping minority students earn their associate degrees. The study, Top 100 Minority Associate Degree Producers report, was conducted by Diverse: Issues In Higher Education, and ranks HCC as one of the top degree producers for African-Americans in six disciplines, and in four subject areas among Latinx populations.

HCC Art Professor Lydia Viscardi Opens New Show on August 28
Housatonic Community College (HCC) studio art adjunct professor Lydia Viscardi will present “Here and Hereafter,” a solo exhibition of mixed media painting and works on paper at Five Points Gallery from August 28 – October 3, 2020. The gallery, located at 33 Main St. in Torrington, CT, is free and open to the public Friday - Sunday from 1-5pm and by appointment. A Virtual Tour can be found on the Five Points Gallery website when the show opens and an Artists Talk will take place via zoom mid-September. Mario Pierce Appointed Associate Dean of Campus Operations
We welcome Mr. Mario Pierce who joins the HCC community as Associate Dean of Campus Operations beginning August 10. Mr. Pierce will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day campus operations and providing leadership, general direction, and administration of the campus’ facilities, maintenance and custodial services, financial support services, information technology services, emergency preparedness, and auxiliary services (e.g. campus security, campus bookstore, food services), as well as assisting the Chief Executive Officer in managing the overall budget and serves as a liaison with appropriate local, State, and College officials.

Hard Work and Endurance Pays Off, Creating New Careers
At age 32, after ten years at HCC, Mayra Cancho is graduating with a degree in Business Administration and two careers. Mayra came to the United States from Peru 15 years ago and needed to learn English; she turned to HCC. That first experience, coupled with encouragement from HCC faculty, and support from FESP and the HCC Foundation, helped Mayra to keep going and realize her dreams.
