InterACTion: A multi-day, multi-activity, cross-curricular symposium

The Fall 2017 InterACTion is scheduled for the week of November 6 - 9, 2017, to be held in the Performing Arts Center on the HCC campus. The Critical Issue being addressed is “FAMILY.” We will look at a variety of ways the concept of FAMILY is determined, constructed, and or defined, and what might result from both traditional and/or non-traditional definitions. A post-presentation discussion is included in each session, if time permits.

Please plan to join us for any (or all!  ) of the following scheduled events:

MONDAY, 11/6/17
12:30 pm -1:45 pm Family Funnies! HCC Improvisation students will perform Comedy Improv, where all audience suggestions will be “family oriented.” There may a new definition for that after this show!

TUESDAY, 11/7/17
11:00 am – 12:15 pm Heart: A Professional Staged Reading of the original play by Connecticut resident and professional actor and teaching artist, Mariah Sage and Bruce Seymour.
12:30 pm - 1:45 pm Shakespeare’s Fathers HCC Theater Arts Professor Geoffrey Sheehan will present select readings of Shakespeare’s Father characters. Selections include Egeus (Midsummer); Prospero (Tempest); Capulet (Romeo & Juliet); and Polonius (Hamlet).
8:00 pm – 9:15 pm Our Family Profiles HCC ENG 101 Students from Professor Mark Lamoreaux’s class will present their own personal FAMILY Profiles.

WEDNESDAY, 11/8/17
12:30 pm - 1:50 pm Family: Race & Genetics Professor Saulo Colon & Professor Donna Rhoads will present a look at Race and Genetics in families and how that informs (or misinforms!) our definitions and perceptions of FAMILY.

THURSDAY, 11/9/17
11:00 am – 12:15 pm Evening Star by Milcha Sanchez-Scott HCC Theater Arts Acting students will present a Staged Reading of the play about two families, living side-by-side, as they deal with unexpected changes in their lives.
3:30 pm – 5:00 pm Romeo & Juliet: A Shakespeare Master Class Westport Country Playhouse Artistic Director Mark Lamos, and actors from the WCP current production of Romeo & Juliet (a couple of famous FAMILIES there!) will lead a Master Class on Shakespeare and Acting Shakespeare.
7:00 pm – 8:00 pm Family Jams! A Rock & Roll Concert A rockin’ group of HCC Faculty, Staff, and Students will present songs from groups with FAMILY ties!
