(0 votes)

On Friday, Oct. 18, educators in Grades K – 12 have the unique opportunity to experience workshops by experts focused on developing and energizing creativity in education. CreativityCon is sponsored by the Connecticut Association for the Gifted (CAG) in partnership with Housatonic Community College (HCC). The conference takes place in the HCC Events Center in Beacon Hall from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18. Participants at the Forum have the opportunity to tour the HCC Campus and learn about STEAM programs offered including the Advanced Manufacturing Technology program.

The Keynote speaker is Richard D. Courtright, PhD, Duke Talent Identification Programs’ Gifted Education Research Specialist. Dr. Courtright’s topic will be ‘Socratic Inquiry – Portal to Creative, Critical & Higher Order Thinking’. Educators of all levels and subjects will be encouraged to consider what is more important in the educational process than acquiring knowledge and developing skills? Far more important than either of these is the goal of enlarging understanding. When students engage in learning for understanding, its very nature involves creative thinking, critical thinking and higher order thinking. Centuries ago, Socrates gave us the model for the process of teaching for understanding – questioning. That approach is as significant today as it was then - indeed, even more so. Participants will also have a choice of 15 Breakout Sessions from other leaders in the field of Creativity, and a post-luncheon tour of HCC’s Art Studios, Advanced Manufacturing Technology and Surgical Technology Centers.

Teachers, administrators, parents and others are invited to attend this day-long event, dedicated to helping develop and nurture creative thinkers and problem solvers. Please visit https://www.cagcreativitycon.org/ for details and to register. Online registration is open through October 17.
