Giving Day ‘Takeover’ at Housatonic Community College

The Housatonic Community College Foundation (HCCF) would like to thank the community for its generous support on Fairfield County’s Giving Day. In just 24-hours, the organization raised over $32,000 to support students at Housatonic Community College.

Held on February 27th, and hosted by Fairfield County's Community Foundation with champion sponsor Bank of America, Fairfield County’s Giving Day inspires and empowers our region to raise as much money as possible for local nonprofit organizations in 24 hours through online donations.

As a regional leader in higher education, workforce development, and community engagement, Housatonic Community College (HCC) is assisted by the Foundation, which provides student scholarships, emergency assistance, book funds, program enhancements and support of the Housatonic Museum of Art.

The HCC Foundation exceeded it past years’ outcomes by organizing a campus-wide ‘Giving Day Takeover!’ A series of student social media contests, video challenges, trivia and email blasts were conducted, as well as celebration events with students, faculty and supporters. These efforts increased campus engagement. In fact, more than double the number of students and faculty participated in Giving Day as compared to last year.

R.D. Scinto Inc., Patriot Bank, Reynolds & Rowella and People’s United Bank joined nearly 200 other donors in support of the Giving Day Takeover.

““Fairfield County’s Giving Day offered a fun, engaging way for the whole HCC community to give-back and help more students attend college, which can create a pathway to a brighter future,” said Bruce Murray, the HCC Foundation’s board president. “Scholarships often determine whether a student can attend college at all, and we’re grateful to everyone who donated.”

“Education is extremely important, especially for people who live in this area. It’s the only way to catch up to others from more well-off communities,” said first year HCC student Joshua Rosado, a scholarship recipient.
