The art of HCC alum Emily Khon has two distinct traits that comprise her work. First, she works almost exclusively in black and white. Second, her subject and inspiration is her family’s native Cambodia..

Grace Akallo was only 15 years old when she was abducted from her school by Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and forced into a life as a child soldier. As part of the initiation into the army, Akallo was raped, tortured and forced to kill. After being held by the LRA for seven months, unsure if she would be killed, Akallo escaped.

HCC students in partnership with The Mariposa Foundation, began work on repairing and painting decaying schools this week in Cabarete, Dominican Republic.

Registration continues this week for Housatonic Community College’s (HCC) spring semester, which runs from Jan. 17 through May 5.
