Local real estate leader Bob Scinto celebrated the hard work and accomplishments of HCC scholarship recipients this week with a private luncheon and meet and greet at his office park in Shelton.
Scinto, founder and Chairman of R.D. Scinto, Inc., recently donated $10,000 to the Housatonic Community College Foundation (HCCF) in support of student scholarships. Scinto’s donation will allow for 20 students to receive funding to help pay for college. This year, recipients ranged from Theater Arts majors to students earning certificates in Criminal Justice. Most of the recipients attended the luncheon.
“It was a great experience.” HCC student Desma Casimir-Fatal said. “Bob asked us about our journey and to share our opinions on education.”
Casimir-Fatal, a mother of three, is taking pre-requisite courses at HCC to earn a degree in exercise science. Casimir-Fatal, like many at HCC, is also working part-time while taking on a full course load.
“I know it will be worth it.” Casimir-Fatal said. “It was nice to hear someone who could relate to our struggles and give advice on how we can all succeed.”
“It was uplifting to see so many young people who are optimistic about their future.” Scinto said. “Their success is reflective of their hard work.”
Scinto’s relationship to HCC dates back years and was recognized at the 2018 HCCF Gala, where Scinto received HCCF’s Community Service Award.
