Art Enthusiasts Gather At HMA Artist Event

Earlier this month, on December 4, a crowd of art enthusiasts came out to join artist Joseph Saccio as he provided an exclusive walk through of his solo exhibition: “In a Dark Wood, Wandering,” at the Housatonic Museum of Art. The ambitious career survey exhibition was on view in the Burt Chernow Galleries through December 14th.

Saccio, who is from New Haven, shared his artistic process and his interests in mythology, nature and his journey though bereavement. Attendees marveled at fantastical works created with wood, natural materials and found objects. Over the course of thirty years, Saccio created large-scale sculptures that draw on classical mythology and religious narrative. The result: primal, emotional and imaginative works of art that explore loss, grief, and resilience.

The Housatonic Museum of Art would like to thank Elizabeth Fray, the Werth Family Foundation, the Housatonic Community College Foundation (HCCF), and the Housatonic Community College as well as numerous individual donors for their support.
