Housatonic Community College (HCC) Assistant Professor of Psychology and Human Services Laura Turiano received the 2016-2017 Board of Regents Teaching Excellence Award at the Third Annual Conference on Shared Governance and Student Success. The conference was held at Central Connecticut State University on May 5th. Professor Turiano was nominated by her former supervisor, Dr. Edward Keane, based on his observation of her success in creating a “true learning community” where enthusiasm for students, “intentional teaching” and consideration for learning theory and practice are wielded with equal intensity. Turiano also garnered accolades for follow-up assessments and providing students with opportunities for careful reflection, active learning, and practical application.
It’s a pleasure to honor these outstanding faculty members for their contributions,” said CSCU President Mark Ojakian. “Their dedication to teaching and learning, and commitment their schools, have a profound impact on our students, our entire CSCU community.” Dr. Merle Harris, Regent and Chair of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee noted, "The caliber of teaching and research award winners is inspiring. These faculty focus on student success. The awards provide a means of recognizing their exemplary work.”
